MWP began awarding scholarships to members working on doctoral dissertations with its initial grant to Margaret Charmoli in 1984. Ten years later, it extended its annual grants to one master’s and one doctoral candidate. MWP awarded it’s first Master’s grant in 1994. The awards began at $300 and ultimately rose to $1,000 for doctoral and $500 for master candidates.
